Someone posted this on my FB group looking for info,  I figured early/mid 80's maybe MIJ but recognise anything to give a brand?

Any ideas?

That's very unusual. DIY re-shape and refinish of a MIJ Jazz Bass copy, possibly? The Gibson-type nut and plastic truss rod cover is certainly from something like that - likewise the poor-quality chrome plating on the control plate and bridge cover which pits very easily, and the bridge with two screws at the front.

Are there filled screw holes in the pickguard screw positions from a Jazz? It looks like there might be, but they could be other dings or marks.

First thoughts on seeing the nobbly headstock and short lower body horn were Kawai, El Maya or Eko. The squared off end of the upper horn is reminiscent of Cimar.

Sight of the bridge saddles might help. I half expect the two strings per saddle type.
