Well, the Yamaha Revstar 502T turned up and it's pretty bloody good.  Firstly, it's in as new condition and, secondly, the build quality is exceptional, as good as PRS and far better than any Gibson I've owned.

Soundwise, I've had four LPs - a Studio, two Standards and a Classic - and this thing has the measure of all of of them, sounding what I imagined an LP should sound like, which is to say balanced from top to bottom, articulate and aggressive.

More comment to follow.

HNGD! I think the Revstars look cool as hell, so I'm looking forward to seeing yours.

Weird question - how wide is the neck at the nut? I really like the look of these, but the last Yamaha I owned had a really narrow nut. I could not get on with it at all.

The reviews for these say that they have a "vintage" style neck. Can you tell us how "vintage" it really is?
    I like chunky, see.....

HNGD. Revstars are great looking guitars. I've owned a couple of Yamahas and can vouch for the build quality. Enjoy.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

At the risk of derailing the thread, I got rid of a PAC311H for exactly this reason.

However, i've recently bought a PAC611HFM which has the same (narrow) nut width yet somehow feels totally different. In fact one of the most comfortable necks (for me) that I've ever played on any guitar.

So I'm now thinking that the issue with the 311H neck was something other than its narrowness. I do seem to recall reading that the necks on the higher specced instruments are built in a different (USA?) factory.

  • Always nice to hear a happy NGD report.

I will measure the nut width and neck depth at the weekend.  It feels quite ordinary to me but I’ve transitioned between 2015 LPs, 50s and 60s style Teles and an early McCarty quite happily so I’m clearly not one to trust.

We may have an issue though.
As the day has worn on and the guitar has warmed up there is a buzz on the 10th fret upwards on the G string.  Only that string and only there, gone by the 15th fret.  Any thoughts?
