Recycling guitar strings

What's Hot
Apologies if this has been discussed before: I've searched, but couldn't see anything... while restringing my guitar today I was thinking (again) about how much metal I've thrown away over the years in guitar strings.

I know D'Addario do a recycling program but it's only in the US... is there anything similar over here?
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

I was surprised but the local metal scrappies told me they could recycle them when I was weighing some cable in. Essentially they’re just steel. If you chuck them in your local metal recycling they can be sorted and recycled.

I just throw them in with the recycling at home.

I put mine in the metal recycling bin I have in the garage, that then gets emptied at the tip when it’s full.

Old strings can be turned into effective cheese-cutters and rabbit snares.

I find they chafe my hands when I'm garroting people.

... and I find that cheese tastes a bit funny, especially if I've used Fast Fret on the strings when they were on the guitar.  ;)

I don't make the bracelets, I only supply them with the strings.

I always put mine into a can I'm recycling. That way they stay in the loop.

  • If you have a spare 30 years, a low E string can be used to file through the prison bars, very slowly.

C'mon. Anyone with a sense of tradition knows you can only garrotte someone with piano wire!

    It gives a better tone.
