Hot rod telecasters?

 I’m looking for an old tele but as an interim while I’m looking for the right one (I’m thinking mid 60s but maybe a little newer), I came across the fender hot rod range.
They could be a cool mix of old looks an modern features -  as I understand it they came with flatter necks, bigger frets and they did some with a wide range neck pickup and some with a Seymour mini hum.      
Anyone owned one and have an opinion on them?

Yes. I have 2 at present and have had maybe 6 or 7 of them over the years. Stupidly good guitars, I prefer them to Custom Shop Tele’s.

Yeah really nice guitars, especially the 50s Tele with the mini humbucker in the neck

Duncan SM-1n mini humbucker and a hotter than vintage bridge/Treble single coil. 

Never seen one with a WRHB replica. 

Another model that might be of interest is the second issue of the Old Growth Redwood Telecaster - the version with a humbucker in the neck position.

I’ve been looking on and off for a lightweight Hotrod Tele for ages but all of those I’ve seen for sale have been too heavy for my liking. Some people like heavy guitars though, fair enough!

Thanks I saw that and it looks nice but feels a bit overpriced?   Maybe I’ve been looking a private sales.

I put this together for someone and think it's quite a cheap way to get what you want, it's an allparts neck with a guitar build blank and custom made by me, it's chambered under the pickguard and extremely lightweight even with a bigsby

The '52 Hot Rod (or Hotrod, I can never remember which it is) had the Duncan mini-bucker.  The neck's a fairly big U shape like the AVRI '52, but with a 9.5" radius and bigger frets.  They were discontinued in 2011.

Then they had the '50s Hot Rod with a full-size neck humbucker and a different neck shape (I think they called it a C to D, but I could be wrong).  I think they've been discontinued too, they didn't last long.

Are they not virtually the same as the American Original range minus the occasional humbucker tele? Wouldn’t be surprised if Fender do an FSR American original range with pickup mods.

I think the designers behind the AO range very much had these in mind when they put their design trousers on.

Looks cool but the neck alignment looks off. Low E very close the edge of the fret board.

All it needs is the screws loosening slightly then give the neck a sideways yank.

Or for the impatient, forget loosening the screws just give it the sideways yank.
