...or at least, much better sounding guitar. Classic 57’s in 335 - I can set both volumes and tones around 7-8 without the neck sounding muddy or the bridge sounding harsh.

Definitely the case, even more so with slightly hotter pickups. I personally like most pickups on the low side anyway, including PAFs.
