Plugging holes in maple neck for locking nut, advice please!

Hi all,

Need to plug and redrill holes for a locking nut in a maple neck. It's a top mount nut not a through the neck one. What's the best wood and strongest method of doing it? Copious PVA and maple?

Didn't want to use matches, and any ideas where can I buy maple or other wood that small a size to wedge in and glue?

Coctail sticks might be a better hard grain wood than a simple soft matchstick. Cut off the very pointyist (proper technical term) bit to fill the hole fully. Do a couple of test fits without wedging it in finally. PVA or CA (cyanoacrylate/superglue) will do, leave either the requisite amount of time to harden and then re-drill. Make and use a simple template Jig to get accurate positioning rather than hand held blasting with a powertool.

If you really wanted to do it properly you can get 3mm hardwood dowels from all sorts of hobby websites. problem with toothpicks is that you'll just end up drilling out the toothpick again so it's like you've just filled the original stripped thread with superglue, which is probably likely to strip/wear loose again.
