We actually looked iun to getting a mate to join as an engineer for a while but the venues we were playing at the time were having none of it.  :(

Basement Jaxx have this guitar tech / all-round sound and equipment guy called Roy who is bloody amazing. He has spares of absolutely everything, helps everyone with their individual sound as well as the overall sound, and is bloody friendly and good at the guitar. Problems melt away when he's helping you, it's awesome. The guy with the beard at the Portland Arms (@bidley, is it Peter?) is bloody good too. I think it's up to the sound guy to be incredibly professional and able to deal with and help amateurs like me, and the good ones are worth their weight in gold.
