Building a cheap pedal board

So
eldest has been learning and coming along well, so I thought maybe for his birthday I would build him a Basic pedal board, chorus, reverb overdrive, distortion and maybe an octave
had a look at some of these joyo pedals and Amoon things on eBay, are they any good ?

I've had a few joyo pedals. They sound good but they do break.

Some of the TC pedals are very cheap now.

I could just buy him a multi effects job but would rather get them separately so he can add and change them as he refines his own tastes
