  • I’m assuming all of the below are in there (in no particular order):

    Rat
    TS
    Big Muff
    Klon
    CE-1 or 2
    Crybaby
    Phase 90
    Fuzz Face
    DL-4 (surpasses now but 100% the kick-start for mega-delays)
TR-2? Or is there some other classic tremolo I’ve forgotten???

  • Was this in some kind of supplement only for non-subscribers?

  • Not in my current copy of the Guitar Magazine. Also have Guitar Player electronically and it’s not in that. Looked up Guitarist, not on the cover of that.

Most of the guesses are right - this isn’t a particularly controversial list! The justifications are pretty well thought out.

  • If a tube screamer is number one I dont care about the list.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'd be surprised if the Dallas Rangemaster isn't on there even though hardly any of us can afford one.

If one of the considerations is historical significance then it should be. So many classic rock tones.
