1983 Yamaha SL-450S. Never thought I'd buy a les Paul but this appealed. Meant to be great guitars. Anyone got any experience of these?

I’m guessing you’ll have already researched the differences between Studio Lords, Lord Players, etc? If not, this is useful:

I can only speak for myself, but I think they’re great guitars. I’d buy my old LP back in a heartbeat.

  • Looks very nice & you got quite an unusual transition model in that it's a studio lord, but has the Gibson shape head like a lord player.
Yours is almost exactly like my LP 400 except probably in better condition & it looks like yours has a bell shaped trc rather than the christmas tree shaped one.
I think they're great, Yamaha build quality, though I'm not really sure what the woods are. I find the bridge pickup on mine sounds nice, but it's a bit weak, neck on it's own is very good & same with both pickups together. Mine's not that heavy, though no lightweight. Feels nice & "alive". Probably swapping pickups soon & it needs some repair work. Hope you're liking yours.

Almost two months in and constantly pick this up. Really slim neck and just lovely to play. Pickups are pretty decent too. Really impressed with this. Like historyisjunk said it seems I got a transition model. Definitely a keeper.

    True.

And the good news is that I recently DID re-acquire my old Yamaha LP! ;)
