Powering a HX Stomp.

Does anyone have any insight on powering a HX Stomp from a pedalboard power supply?

I’m putting together a small pedal board with a HX Stomp on it. I’d like to have just one power lead to a Isolated supply that then powers all the pedals including the HX Stomp.

I boight this as the power supply thinking I could use a Y cable and a 2.1-2.5 adapter, to combine the two 9v 500Ma outputs to power the HX Stomp.

https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_powerplant_iso_2_pro.htm

However reading the instructions it states states that using the Y cable combines the voltage of the two outputs, ie delivering 18v to the HX Stomp. Obviously I don’t want to risk sending 18v into a 9v device, I just want 9v at 1A.

Any thoughts on this? It doesn’t sound right that the actual voltage would combine.

  • I did it by combining 2x500ma outputs of a Strymon Zuma. Just need the right lead and the adaptor (which you have).  I just got the Voodoo Labs cable and a cheapo amazon adaptor

I’ve noticed Voodoo Labs do “current doubler” cables and “voltage doubler” cables. Is combining outputs to either double the voltage or current a capability of the cable, rather than the power supply?

Found this that explains it. Seems the Y cable that came with the PSU is in serial then.

Current doubler. While the voltage doubler puts two outputs in series to double (add together) the voltage, the current doubler instead puts the two outputs in parallel. That way, the voltage stays the same, while the available current doubles. So two 9vDC/100mA outputs will now combine into a single 9vDC/200mA output.

  • Yep that is exactly it - that is the one you need

I’ve just powered mine with one 500ma output on a Truetone CS7.  I emailed them before purchasing and they said it could do this fine.

    What is the power requirements?

    1000mA at 9v?

Yes. Apparently it draws 940ma at boot up, but the drops down a bit. I’ve heard people have run them off 1x 500ma port before. Will try this when my 2.5 adapter arrives tomorrow. If not, I’ll combine two outputs.

Oh man, that’s hefty for your typical power brick.

Tried it and can power it from a single 500ma output. Good times!

Has anyone tried powering it from a Volto rechargeable power supply?

It puts out enough mA to do it in theory but would the battery be drained in 10mins due to the power requirements
