I am after a rat but there seems so many varying opinions on what’s the best. And so many boutique versions

Best TPS for a long time. I have a cheap chinese copy which I suspect might be similar to todays standard rat 2, but damn, some of those other pedals sound splendifurous.

Assuming the question is what I think it is oddly enough this came out today, might help.

My favourite is the big box one. It's definitely got its own character that sets it apart from all the others I've tried. I owned a Rat 2 but I thought it sounded horrible compared to the big box version, really fizzy, flat and dull.

I first brought a Rat around 30 years ago now and still prefer them - I don't gig now, but use to have 2 on my board during my gigging days - One set on a crunch rhythm with little gain, but full vol, the other with more of a 'lead gain' setting

Couple of years ago I brought a Thorpy FX - At the time Adrain had 4 pedals - I tried them all, with out knowing which my suit me - My ears preferred the tone of the Warthog, so that is what I purchased - At the time not doing it was Rat influenced

My favourite is the RAT2 :). But it *must* be the original USA-made one with full-size pots and a DPDT switch. The switch makes no difference to the sound, but is a simple indicator that it's the right one. The LM308 chip also makes no difference but the changeover was at about the same time as the pots so easily assumed to be the difference... but it is the pots. Really.

I ordered an ‘Eno’ rat clone from Amazon. What I received from China was different; it was a  ‘T Cube Series’ R Distortion pedal. Without being able to compare, it sounds to me pretty close to a rat. Still want a proper one, tho the Rattler has TPS sounded wicked. Is the Thorpy Warthog Ratesque?

The ThorpyFX Warthog is like a Rat with all the issues resolved ...like the lousy bass response and flub

Ive just tried a Jam Rattler, and is my first taste of rats (unbelievably).

It was a lovely (visually) pedal, with some of the best packaging Ive seen. Arrived direct and very quickly from Jannis in Athens. Superb service.

Im not much of a distortion guy, but loved the sound and feel of it. It wasnt ideal though into the Carr Mercury V and I decided to return it.

I reckon into a clean amp, it would be mega, it seem Mick Taylor loves his !

I love Rats. Like the Turbo Rat the best I think. Seems bigger and less compressed. Would like to try a Cbread Katzenkonig out as it seems to have the potential to get a bit fuzzier and looser than a normal rat.

Turbo is my fave. Got 2 originals and had a diode lift switch installed on one. I'd like to try the fat rat but it's £200+
