Hi all

Very sad to be selling my 2008 '61 Gibson SG reissue. It's an absolute player, which has been on the road with me all over. It's been played hard and shows the signs and wear, but plays beautifully and has always been expertly set up by a great luthier (recently fitted a very vintage bone nut). Set up with 11's on and screams. I was looking for an SG for ages before settling on this one due its light weight, resonance, and very excellent sounding neck pick up.

Everything except the new nut is stock to the 2008 '61 reissues and a new tune-o-matic bridge that I bought last year to replace the ghastly one Gibson used in 2008.

Sad to see this go and it's purely a space/too many guitars issue and mostly down to the fact that I'm playing single coils almost exclusively for current work. This will always be a special guitar to me as I played it in support of Paul Simon and James Taylor last year at Hyde Park with my band. Hoping this will be of interest to someone who will give it plenty of life!

Looking for £800. With very battered and unattractive looking, but functional, hard case. Collection or can meet within reason, based in Berkhamsted and Chesham - Herts/Bucks but am in London most days.

Thanks
Harry

  • Thank you @gringopig ! It sure is a beauty, the finish and colour is just right for the quintessential SG in my mind

    Just beautiful. Good price too!

Was Gibson putting classic 57s in the 61 back then?

  • thank you @PonchoGreg - as far as I can tell these are Classic 57's - but I'm afraid I'm going purely on my ears, I couldn't tell you with 100% confidence what these are - but they sound much more vintage than the Standard SG with the bat wing pickguard. More barky and sensitive at the same time

  • @spark240 those are actually pre-CBS Fender slippers, I was careless, I shouldn't have put those on display actually. Not For Sale

Had one of these from '09. Loved the sound, but i couldn't get on with the neck.

This is vibey as hell, and a great price. it won't be around for long.

    Noise, randomness, ballistic uncertainty.

  • Thanks guys, vibey is the word, there's a reason why it's been loved so hard and rough!

    Can’t believe it’s still here.

Probably because the wear is natural. If it was a relic you’d have sold it 10 times.  ;)

    Good luck!

Yeah if I didn't have an sg already I'd be all over this. I wonder if people are a bit more put off by (genuine) wear on gibsons vs fenders?

    Anyway, glwts

Did you wear them at Hyde Park too?

  • Ah thanks guys, you make me feel better. Only cosmetic damage found here friends! Plays and set up like an absolute dream.

@spark240 I tend not to take those out on the road, just too valuable and if im honest not reliable, cant beat them for feel, but wouldn't want to use them in a high pressure situation.

  • Guitar looks great. Are the bone nut slots cut in a wide V for a reason?
