Neck pocket crack

What's Hot

Hey guys,

Despite having owned a few strats, I've never had a neck pocket finish crack so don't really have a point of reference. Would you consider this an issue on a used guitar?

Unfortunately can't see it in person...

Any pointers appreciated!

Thanks

Very common with strats. its is usually just in the finish most of the time. i believe it is due to the design unfortunatly so it almost always going to happen. if it bothers you take the neck off and look to see if it is just in the finish or if the wood is cracked. but if it plays fine i wouldnt even bother doing that

That's just in the finish - it doesn't follow the direction of the wood grain.

As everyone has said those cracks are very common, you’re extremely lucky not to have had them in your other Stratocasters.

I've never had one on a G&L, but I've seen them on Tokais and Fenders etc, because you still have to pop the neck for the truss rod and they're built smaller.

Don't listen to the bullshit above.

That crack is a deal breaker, but as I like you I'll do you a favour. £15, my final offer and really I'm doing myself over going that high.

It's a complete non-issue, however lots of people won't buy guitars that have it.  My last EVH superstrat took ages to sell because it had them.  The buyer in the end couldn't care less, but it seriously reduced my selling pool.

    Just so you're aware...

Cheers - I was (potentially) on the buy-side for that one. Initially put me off, before the above comments and the realisation that I was looking at a 10mm crack several times magnified =)

'crack' in the neck pocket - That would be one way of hiding the evidence and/or a new way of smuggling - After all Custom officers are only looking for a CITES certificate and rosewood fingerboards

Had my crack for 43 years. Has never moved or caused any issues. Live with it.
