Yikes, is this the going rate for one of these now?

I think I sold mine for like £350.

    No.

£500 max. The last one on Ebay went for £350 too.

Another eBay dreamer, they are heavier than the Sun though

Ah yeah.  I see there is another one one there with starting price £125.

I would get one again if I ever decided to try the digital/modeling route.

Why? As sweepy said, they weigh an incredible amount. They do sound good, but you could just get a decent modern power amp which would do the same job at a fraction of the weight.

They're so heavy they’re actually difficult to mount in most rack cases without extra support. You really need a full pro tour spec case and put the amp at the bottom.

If you go back to a modelling setup I wouldn't get a valve power amp personally. The best sound I've had do far has been an Atomic CLR and that's trying various amp and speaker setups

Yeah, to be honest I don't know anything about the modern alternatives.

  • Looks like the seller may have been hit on the head by that particular power amp.

A fryette power station is a good bet if you want a valve power amp.

You would need two if you want stereo though - and it’s only 50W.

OK, very few people need 2x100W, but if you want that much volume you can get something like a Matrix GT800FX, which is 400W per channel and weighs 8.2lb.

I find them beautifully looking (9100/9200 etc.) but don't really see the point of these in a rack system. I could buy one if I came across but it would be more a collector/design thing than for what it's meant for...
