  • If it is your preference to have that kind of tremolo system, I don't see a problem :)

Plus they are truly awful the posts would bend forwards  and if you wanted to used it as a trem it would go out of tune with a feather touch., I owned one for a month or so ...... Horrible.

I think it may be factory fitted. My 87 Single cut is more vintage spec apart from tailpiece and tuneamatic. Has a dogear p90. That seems a more modern spec with soapbar p90. Plus the knob placement and switch.Gibson have always done 'odd' things.

Yup they were factory fitted, they did a whole range of them in the 80s

Basically it was an early attempt at the robot tuner idea - take a classic vintage guitar design and bang on some wildly inappropriate modern technology which will be obsolete before the paint has dried...

Just be thankful they didn’t fit them to all the models that year.

Thing is, when they’re built properly the Steinberger trem systems are amazing bits of kit
But maybe not the right accessory for a Junior

Indeed. I'd fit anything to anything (insert appropriate never-the-twain-shall-meet guitar/vibrato here) if I wanted to. ;)

Gibson fucked Steinberger when they bought the company.
Here we have Steinberger fucking up that Gibson.

It is over thirty years old. To a millennial, that is an eternity.

Would have been better with a Bigsby, those Steinberger trems as with the headless ones are as responsive as an Austin Allegro on Crossplys

    Depends on which one.
    The Trans-trem is a marvel.
Once Gibson fucked the brand took over quality control went massively downhill.

Didn't Hohner have a range of guitars with that same bridge, maybe a few years earlier than this one?  I think they had graphite necks too.

They did quite a few with factory Kahlers. A far better and more appropriate unit, but no doubt the bean-counters objected because Gibson didn't own Kahler.

The Steinberger inc the Trans Trem had no real feel or response, in other words stiff and heavy handed which for me is all that i detest in a trem unit

    If it's what you're into it's good.

    For me, it's not.

Floyd rose on a Gibson Byrdland?

You know I'm not even sure if that’s possible.
