Ibanez RG Bridge replacement

I have a pair of RG's that have both been through a couple of bridges each..
thing is.. it seems that Ibanez bridges are well designed, but made out of soft crap..

I'm wondering if going to a luthier and replacing them with a Floyd Rose [shimmed for the 16" radius] would be a better alternative..

  • What is going, the knife edges?

There are several stud spacings in use by Ibanez, so a FR might be a hassle. Gotoh FR is often used as a replacement. Some poor Ibanez bridges can be directly replaced by good Ibanez bridges too.

If you know the specific bridge you are trying to replace, a search of Jemsite should get you the info you need.

one of the RG's has a LoTRS2, the other a LoProEdge [that I replaced the LoTRS2 with years ago..

both one RG it on it's 3rd LoTRS, the other has had 2 LoTRS and a LoPro

    it's always the knife edges..

I have FR on three other guitars and they are awesome.. and old.. and seen a lot of action..
also thinking to go to a luthier to put in a FR properly.. including taking out the Ibanez posts, plugging the holes and putting in the FR ones.. I'm thinking to get the new bridges direct from Floyd.. proper ones rather than cheaper copies..

The damning comment is in the final paragraph.

The German-made products are seriously good. Actual Floyd Rose or Schaller.

Visit the Schaller website. Check the comprehensive dimension diagrams for all of the available sizes then, order what suits your guitar(s).

the only concern is that FR don't make a leftie lo profile..
whilst that's ok for my other guitars, I don't know what this means for the RG routing wise..
