Is it me, or are these possibly the biggest bargain one can get nowadays on high gain amps?  You can get one in good nick for £475-£500 on eBay all day.  And they sound vast.

Sorely tempted even though I already have too many high gain amps!

our guitarist sold one because it was too heavy to carry   :(

i actually dont like them that much unless boosted but they are pretty damn decent amps for the money.

I keep one one my Ebay watchlist at all times just in case I decide to get one "just to have one in"

My mate loves his one. Isn't there a Bugera clone of it too?

EDIT- yeah, the Bugera 6260 is a clone of the 5150, and they also do a 5150ii clone in their 6262.
    Even more cheapness.

The mark 1 combo can be had for between £250-£300. You can take out the amp and mount it in a head case and have a nice 60 watt 5150 head for a great price. I recently bought a 6505 mini head and have to say its pretty much a perfect recreation in a 20 watt form.

Hopefully it's because high gain is on the way out.

    What an absolutely bizarre comment.

  • I was after one of these but they stopped making them and I found a 6505+ for a similar price what you're seeing them sold on ebay and the like. I love the 6505+ as it has a two channel EQ control but the red channel of the 5150 was the staple of metalcore!

  • They still make a 5150, it's now called a 6505.

    Peavey 5150 = 6505
    Peavey 5150 II = 6505 +

The name changes were because when Eddie left he took the 5150 trademark with him.  The 5150 III is made by Fender under their EVH brand.

I think they meant, “because high gain valve amps are on the way out” which I’m inclined to agree with.

Because let’s face it, pretty much the only interesting music being made these days involves either pristine cleans or utter utter filth.  ;)

Oh I see!  In which case, I hope that perception exists and I can pick up a Friedman JJ for pennies in a couple of years :)
