Mine sounds like this.
Can even sound like this.

I'm playing it through a Marshall Amp, it's an American Fender Deluxe ash body/maple neck stock with stock noiseless pickups.

It doesn't sound like this though.

  • I like what I've got, but, what pickups and or amp would I need to get that surf tone?

but then, I gather that was a plethora of effects that I don't have.
How do I get the Fender I do have to sound like that? Now THAT would be cool.
If anyone knows how that rig was.

    A Princeton would do it.

A princeton would do it.  spring reverb pedal, a joyo american sound and tremolo would get you there on most amps - not tried it with a marshall though.

Any vintage strat pickups should work.

Interesting the chap in the eliminators is using the inbetween rather than the bridge pickup.

  • My Strat sounds like this:

    It's a Squier though...
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

If I was to take a photo of me showing my Strat love I'm sure it would break some forum guidelines.

Seriously though, it's not always right for every kind of sound I want but for looks and comfort and playability and for the sounds it can do, it's the best guitar ever made and can never be beaten.

I love my strat. I've bought it 2nd hand around 25 years ago, and it feels superb to me. So much so that whenever I try something new / different I don't like it cos it doesn't feel the same as mine.

I do love the sound of a nice Strat in the neck position.  Bit or ‘verb and tubescreamer and you’re there.

The middle and bridge pickups are just for decoration though.

You stick a bog standard Stratocaster into an ugly loud Marshall and add fuzz and univibe but most importantly, carefully set your guitar to be JUST out of tune enough to be painful, then dick around on the whammy for ages until your audience goes away. Unless they're stuck in a festival hundreds of miles from home; then you are sorted!

I confess: I never liked the man's music and his influence on guitar is regrettable as it spawned a generation of guitar manglers who relied on effects and volume to cover up sloppy technique. Just like their hero!
    LSD must help.

You're joking aren't you? The inbetween positions are iconic!

Keeps reminding me I need to do a ngd. Picked up one of the 2015 fsr US standards with the soft v neck recently, had fancied one for years. It’s so good and I’m the bloke who doesn’t get on with strats.

Needless to say 4 out of 5 positions are bliss. ;)
