If you could only have one pickup, would you choose bridge or neck?

Bridge humbucker every time. Although old age is seeing me use the middle position on twin humbuckers more and more.

    Neck on a humbucker guitar

Tele both, but set to middle only

    Neither.

I would have middle position, two coils, one under each pair of strings.
    Came here to post this.

  • Neck on my Strat.
On my vintage v100, I prefer the middle, out of phase position. Which is of no use in answering the op’s question.

Bridge. I have no real need of a neck pickup to be honest.

Interesting that Morello uses neck only, I started on teles and only used the neck pickup for about 15 years. Then I panicked and bought a Gibson and it's been bridge since then. I still love that Tele neck sound with distortion, maybe should have kept mine

I can't believe all you neckies!

Neck pickup is the bedroom pickup.

Absolutely right, I only use the neck pickup to wind down for bed

My guitars have been humbuckered when I bought them. Even while tapped the answer is bridge.

When I sold the mini-humbuckers on my 70s SG Special and installed a P90 at the bridge only, I asked myself why I hadn't actually thought of buying guitars with only one pickup.

    Depends on the pickup.

P90s, HBs and Strats are superior in the neck... Filtertrons and Teles are all about the bridge... IMO.

  • Bridge, definitely. EMG81, and if I need a bassier sound I'll use my wah (but in the real world I prefer a 60 in the neck as well)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

Depends on the guitar. On a Jazzmaster or Jaguar, I'd go for the neck pickup. On an SG, I'd go for the bridge. In between for Rickenbacker.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

On my HSS Strat, the bridge humbucker ( a “shawbucker”). I sometimes start with the neck but very quickly ends up as bridge. Every time.

    Neck for me.

  • Neck. I use the neck exclusively when gigging.

Bridge? once in a while at home. TBH I dont need it.
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent
