Learnin' the Strat ropes folks  :)

I gather most folks love the neck pick up, i am curious though,in general do you leave the tone full on for that p/up or roll back for "more" bass?

Thanks guys  :)

On full for single coils, generally about 7-8 for humbuckers
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

    A strat neck pickup isn’t a humbucker!

i have Tone on full as there’s not a lot of high end on neck pickups so I wang to keep all there is.
    Karma......

Only a partial one, on the SG to get a fatter Claptonesq/ santana type lead tone.

Both my gigging strats have the neck PU (Oil City Stone Tone) wired to a no-load tone pot so I can remove it from the circuit totally. Rarely moves from the "not in the circuit" position if I'm honest!

This is the one, the neck pickup sounds way better wide open!

You can roll back the tone for some bluesy parts.

I leave the neck on full, but a tone control to roll off the highs on the bridge is essential

Neck on full for me but strats need a tone wired up to the bridge pickup imo. Makes it go from harsh and icepick to somewhat usable.

Go for whatever your ears are telling you at that moment Id say.  I play at max and rolled off.  Get used to changing the knobs whilst your playing so it becomes second nature. :)

    What's a tone control?

The neck pickup is actually quite bright - particularly in a ‘compensated’ set where it has the lowest winding - it’s just that when you’re playing low on the neck it gets mostly string fundamentals not harmonics. If you play right at the top of the neck it sounds more like a bridge pickup, because it’s then close to the end of the string - overall it sounds brighter than the middle pickup, which is never that close to the end of the string.

I roll the tone back to about 2-3 on the neck for a fairly mellow and warm lead sound.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it
