But what about nuts?

I'd assume it doesn't matter once the string is fretted but are there any benefits to Corian over tusq over bone etc?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

“No animals were killed in the making of this nut.”

Seriously, how often do you play an open string. If anyone is seriously worried about the difference between open and fretted notes then use a zero fret.

When it comes to bone nuts, there are different types being unbleached and bleached.  IMO, the latter can be a bit crumbly and are more likely to wear out before an unbleached one, which IMO are less likely to 'stick' as well.

IMO above the material of the nut, the most important aspect to a nut is how well it is cut.  Getting the 'correct' string height at 1st fret is something which is often overlooked.

I do like a brass nut. Love that zing and brightness in the open strings.

Yeah, brass nut for me too. I play a lot of open tuned electric folk and the brass nuts give it the brightness it needs.

Mammoth tusk is the ecological alternative to ivory.
Seems weird but there are no more mammoth’s that can be killed and there has been tonnes and tonnes of mammoth tusk found.

I’ve used in on a couple of acoustic builds and it is very nice.

The nut makes a difference even on fretted notes, it’s not just open strings

I like brass nuts but they do tend to fall off in the cold weather.
