Nice, not shiny mint green strat guard??

PonchoGregPonchoGreg Frets: 764
Hiya,

Do you know where I can find good quality mint green strat guards? Specifically looking for something that hasn't got a really plasticky glossy finish, more of a dull appearance. Not super fussed about actual relicing though.

Thanks in advance!

I had one from them that fitted your description pretty well.

  • 0000 wire wool or very fine wet and dry will flat even the shinest ones down well. Maybe try 2500 grade wet and dry, you can always get more coarse if needed.

A few years ago I bought one from Axesrus and it was a little too green for my liking. In no rush, I decided to hang it outside against my fence and let the sun work its magic. Turned out I left it there for about eight months.

Probably not too helpful in your respect, but if did look rather nice in the end.   :)

I thought about that but was concerned about swirl/scratch marks. I guess high grit + wet should help though

Had various and prefer Fenders own shade of mint. Shouldn’t be difficult to slightly de gloss as above.

0000 steel wool is the way. I bought a relic one from guitars electric on eBay for £40. Not really noticeably relic but less garish than previous mint plastics I've had.

When I did my Tele 'guard I used steel wool and followed it with T-Cut -  an idea I got from one of the Les Paul forums, there's a long-standing thread about de-glossing an Epi poly finish with Scotchbrite pads. The T-Cut gets rid of the worst of the swirl marks without bringing it back to a full gloss.

And not a drop of wire wool or swirl marks in sight :D
