I like to make good use of all thre frets on my guitars.

Anyone tried the new les Paul all access heel?

What's it like?
Smooth easy playing?
On par with feline guitars?
Better than a standard les Paul?
Worth a trip to Anderson's or similar to try one?

Cheers

  • Is it new or the same carve they’ve been using on the custom shop axcess model for some time?

If it’s the same then it’s really nice and does make a difference for playing at the diatu end of the fretboard. I have a CS Axcess and love it

Naturally :)  Have Gibson done a half baked attempt at it,  or is it a quality issue?

I have an axcess and gig it most weeks - really comfy and going back to my other Les Pauls feels really clunky and awkward in comparison. One of Gibson’s best “upgrades” in a long time imo.

    Robot tuners?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Looking at the design of it,  looks like Feline's design is much better/smoother/more access still than the Gibson. Not many online demos yet though.

No matter how good or bad it might be it just can’t be successful as it’s not how it was in 1959.

Yes to all of the above. Not played a feline but the Gibson one was a massive improvement over the original design.

This might actually tempt me to buy Les Paul one day...

edit: on closer inspection it’s still a bit rubbish. The heel is still there, it’s just that the body near the heel has been carved thinner. Not the same as the Axcess heel and not sure how much it would help.

The best Les Paul I ever played was a Feline. I haven't played one of the new Gibson range, but I'd be amazed if they had the same quality and attention to detail that I experienced on the Feline.

No...I'm not an owner but if I ever get fed up of my PRS DGT then Feline are on my list.

You can have the access in the world, but until they stick the rest of the frets on it, what's the point! 2 octave and nothing less
