I miss the days when people used to speak to each other rather than having faces glued to a smartphone or tablet.
I'm just about old enough to remember life before phones were a thing, and I don't remember people being very talkative to be honest, other than the usual nosey parkers who only talked to get the goss or to tell you about their wonderful new stone horse sculpture in the garden.

And, to be honest, knowing the people on my train in a morning, I'm rather glad they focus on phone screens rather than trying to talk to me :)
I was thinking more of people who know each other all sitting around the same table.

Buying single fags from the corner shop or a pack of '5 Park Drive'.

Getting free bags of scraps from the chippy.

Cheap Airfix model planes in plastic bags.

Little wooded areas around the town that were undeveloped where as kids we would play for hours. All now sadly concreted over and mostly turned into car parks.

Local corporation double decker buses that were regular, on time and cheap as chips to travel on.

Marathon bars and Club biscuits which, back then, where like thick chocolate nuggets.

Those old-fashioned corner shops and ironmongers where you could by single items that were run by old codgers wearing their brown lab coats.

Really tall polished metal playground slides.. There use to be some great ones when I was a kid at Mayflower Park in Southampton.

One of the great joys of Club biscuits was the chocolate being so thick you could snap big lumps of it off the edge of the biscuit bit. Not like the microscopically thin layer you get now.

Wagon Wheels were a bloody sight bigger too.

I remember when you'd occasionally get a whole finger of solid chocolate in a Kit Kat.  I'd guess their quality control is more consistent now, although I haven't eaten one for years.

Impaling small animals on shaved sticks
Setting fire to small ginger kids in the park
Letting down the tyres on those little blue Invalid cars (or "spazmobiles"as we used to call them )
    Roping people in phone boxes
Putting lighted bangers through peoples letterboxes

A pencil worked, but it was a bit small.  There was something strangely satisfying about how a Bic just fitted perfectly.

Spending hours making and playing on ramps for our bmx's. And the concussions that followed when you used a bit of wood that was too weak and snapped, meaning your front wheel hit the bricks it was propped up on, sending you otb. Eventually we figured out it was better to put the landing on the grass  we got into digging our own dirt jumps in the park but they kept getting flattened by the council. Skatepark was never as fun as this stuff.

Things seem much more sanitised for kids these days. If they even want to play outside any more. I've got my son a bike seat in the hope he gets the MTB bug like I did, he's already a bit of an adrenaline junkie so I'm hopeful.
