Replacing a Gibson PCB

What's Hot

Hi, in the process of screening my 2016 SG with copper tape I broke the little pickup connector. After reading up about the pot values etc I decided while it's all out I may as well replace the lot with traditional wiring.

What wiring kits have people used? I presume it's a fairly common mod.

  • I've used a kit from http://www.bloodstoneguitarworks.com/shop/gibson-wiring-loom before and been happy with it - worth doing as 50s wiring if it's your cup of tea.

I'll second 50s wiring in these circuits. The tone feels much clearer to me.

    Cheers. Decent prices too.

I bought the parts and did mine 50s style. A pre wired harness was a bit more expensive but probably a lot neater :)

You shouldn’t put 50s wiring in an SG.

    They weren’t made until 1961...

    ;)

    [/historical pedant] :)

Personally I wouldn’t anyway, simply because SGs sound clearer and don’t seem to get dull when you turn down the volumes as much as Les Pauls do.

My old man did this on my 2016 SG Faded. Just loose parts and CTS pot's I'm sure. It fixed my crackling issue (the PCB was too fat for the cavity) and improved the sound (especially the neck pickup) no end. I know that sounds like bullshit, but that's how I found it. Coupled with a setup by a respected shop in Glasgow it transformed the guitar from good to amazing... and definitely a keeper.
