Hi all. So I bought a sc550 used for 100 pounds

It's actually very impressive. I am. No expert on set ups. So interested on how to set intonation on a lp.

Also I bought a iron gear pick up I am waiting for to see how much it changes the tone.

The only thing is the tuners really, I think they need changing, what are good but inexpensive tuners and sizing how do I work out which ones will fit?

Lastly will upgrade the bridge and tail peice alter the tone much?

I play mostly on the plain top LP a step down from those. I replace the pickups and cut the nut accurately and it's absolutely stellar. And not just for the price. I've no need to replace anything else on it as of yet.

  • For intonation just adjust the saddles

I've used the Axetec Gotoh-style on a few of my guitars and never had any issues with them.

But a cheap vernier calliper, take out a tuner and measure the barrel diameter.

I’ve put Axetec’s own tuners in a Harley Benton with no problem. If you’ve measured correctly then the biggest problem is that the retaining screw on each tuner might need a new hole

Unless you use neck pickup I wouldn't worry about changing it.

My Gordon Smith has had an unpredictable volume pot from I've had it (26 years) and only troubles me the 0.00000001% I've used it.

Yeah I think the neck will be upgraded last, I wish I knew more about truss rods just the E string buzzes but not sure how to fix or if it's the nut

    Thanks will look

I changed the bridge pick up. Really made a huge difference. First time I've changed a lp pick up. The wire was short and it was quite hard work. But sounds great now

Really do need to change the neck pick up now. It sounds so muddy in comparison.

So far it's cost 100 for the guitar and 15 for the pick ups.

I am really impressed with it for the money
