Happy days!! How that ever got to you in one piece is a miracle!
    Because it's a Fender. They're almost bombproof.

I was going to say, I'd not be too worried about damaging a Fender - they're pretty bulletproof.

I fly to the States tomorrow for a week, and if I find a nice guitar it's coming back with me, neck off, in my suitcase!

How hard is it to actually do that? I get the taking the neck off, but when you put it back together again does it just normally need a bit of a set-up? Asking as I will probably be in the US soon too and had thought about bringing something back if I find anything.

Will depend on what the previous owner has put in the gap to set the neck. I had a Telecaster style electric mandolin from a “well known Teutonic online retailer”; when I took the neck off a couple of washers and what looked like pieces of a toothpick fell out. I wasn’t concerned as I needed to reset the neck anyway but if it feels OK remove the neck carefully and remember what was in there and where it was.

Of course if you’re buying a holiday “souvenir” it will probably be a higher end model and hopefully not as bodged in the factory.

Thanks. Will actually be in Vancouver so not sure what I might find/should look for.

How anyone with half a brain can ship a guitar packaged up like that is incredible!
Thought at first it must be a joke.
    Just stupidity.

Once had a Les Paul delivered in a bin bag.  Lots of very nasty dings and the seller said ‘not my fault, I told the courier to be careful with it’. Numpty!

glad it’s all worked out, really like the highway ones

  • Had a 1972 telecaster delivered to me like that fifteen years ago. Bubble wrap and bin bags.
Absolutely fine. People worry too much ;-)

That is ridiculous. Always collect when buying on ebay. Too many idiots around like this.

I disagree. You’re fully covered by eBay if you get it delivered. Imagine going to get a guitar, getting it home and realising it doesn’t have a truss rod. Who’s gonna check for a truss rod at someone’s house?

It’s more inconvenient but definitely safer as a buyer.

  • Well played ICBM.

Fair play to the OP too for having the bollocks to take it on the chin.

    Nice one Lads.
