Amp (8 Ohm) -> cab (16 Ohm) is a safe mismatch - There is a bit on this in the full sized Mark V manual - page 59:

    So your good
@ICBM - I just wanted your thoughts on this as I've heard that if you do this, you can get earlier break up or reduced volume and that's something I definitely do not want.

Would it be easy to rewire my 2x12 cab (single 16 Ohm output) - the Tone Tubby hemp speakers, one Alnico, one ceramic, are exceptional, not to mention, expensive and I love the combination.

You will always get the maximum power and headroom with a correct match, so a mismatch will reduce volume and give earlier breakup.

You can rewire the cab to 4 ohms, which would be ideal.

  • So whats the difference between this and the 5:25 Express?

And can the 5:25 get the '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb 'Bassman' style clean tone? I have the '68 CDR and i love it - but I find the versatility of the 5:25 very appealing.

@kennedydream1980, you mentioned the CabClone sounded awful in another post. Can you elaborate and any thoughts on that feature from others?

The cab clone sounds like a really bad di’d guitar tone, where as an IR sounds like a really well mic’d up guitar cab. Night and day really.

Cheers @kennedydream1980 for your comments as I'm interested in the Mark V 25 and the CabClone seemed like an added bonus.

I wouldn't expect a CabClone to sound better than IRs so that aside, are you saying it sounds like crap in general or in comparison to things like Palmers, not Two Notes?

I've just listened to the Andertons' CabClone revisited video and I could pick out the CabClone and I thought it sounded darker, not as dynamic or bright as the mic'd up sound, but I thought it was ok and would obviously need some tweaking at the desk.

  • I’ve never really liked any emulated di’d guitar sound out of any amp I’ve owned. I would only ever use one as a very last resort. (I have a Joyo American sound in my cable bag as a backup). I gig with a Fractal AX8 using York Audio IR’s and it sounds superb.

I love mine, no interest in replacing anytime soon. I just use it at home with an orange 1x12

Thanks NorthernStomp and I've enjoyed auditioning them with my gear and hopefully, one will be with me soon.

When trying it, I was particularly impressed when pairing it with the  MB 1x12 Mini Rectifier Slanted cab. The sound of that cab on both cleans and ODs, the dispersion, oomph, light weight and portability were great and just need to try a 2x12 cab (my preferred cab choice) to see what that's like.
