Removing white polish from fingerboard grain

Recently I rather unwisely polished my frets using some metal polish and didn't mask off the fingerboard first. The frets came up lovely, but the polish has found its way into the grain of the fingerboard. So now I've got white flecks all over the fingerboard.

Any tips to get it out? 

It's silver polish for cutlery - on the bottle it says to rinse with water if it's stuck in ornate features.

I'd use lighter fluid and a toothbrush.

I reckon you want to use something that won’t swell the grain of the fret board, and water may well do that not sure if lighter fluid would either though, possibly dependent on how long it’s exposed to the water/lighter fluid. Have you tried with a dry toothbrush?

Well, I had a go with the dry toothbrush (electric) last night. Not too bad, seemed to be working, albeit a bit slow.

Also this morning my teeth have had a lovely grain come out in them.
