I am looking for a new electric guitar under $300. I like to play metal such as Pantera, metallica, megath etc as well as EVH, Satriani etc. I am looking at guitars with and without tremelo bar (ideally would want a FR tremelo)

So far I have found out these 2 guitars can be good candidates:

1. ESP LTD 100FM
2. Schecter Omega 6
3. Epiphone LP-100

What are your suggestions ? Thanks so much !

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

My suggestion is to avoid a Floyd-style trem system on anything in that price range unless you can find an incredible deal on something second hand. The lower end Floyd/Edge systems are notoriously terrible.

My first thought was Ibanez or Jackson... Possibly one of those Vintage widdle stick things. V6m24

  • I was a member of the Vintage Owners Club on Facebook, they DO exist & are apparently LOTS of fun.

Would a Chapman fit the bill too?

Neck size is a big consideration. Some cheap Schecters like the Hellraiser are great but have fat necks; your Charvel types much slimmer. I’d not touch a Floyd Rose.

  • I personally wouldn't go with the Epiphone LP100, I'd try and get a full fat Epi Studio for that money. An Ibanez is achievable as is a Jackson JS32 Dinky. Also, might be worth checking out the cheaper Schecter C6(?) which has better pickups than the Jackson, IMHO, although the Jackson has a compound radius fretboard so......
