Russian electronics designers weren't stupid. They could do with 2 discrete transistors what a western engineer would need a whole IC to do.

Indeed, our encounter with them in the 80's showed that they were not short on brains, but their ability to source and mass produce products using current technology was their limitation.

They were denied access to IC technology by Reagan et al. Hence they had to devise their own alternatives.

If I didn't already have a small Fender amp I would give one serious consideration, although I think I would prefer it in black.

I don't know what they've done to the circuit precisely but it has been changed from what ive been told. Overall general build quality improvements over the pro Jr. Ceramic valve seats, wima caps, better taper on the volume control from memory.

Yeah I think they mentioned a few things about what they'd changed in the comments on the Guitar and Bass review on their website. Didn't seem to be a ton, though obviously you'd need to see a schematic to be sure. Still no real problem, a "better" pro junior for less money is still pretty sweet, I liked the pro junior I tried.
