The simple solution is a red tele with a bigsby surely?

I'd go with the former. Or just keep it stock.
And for me, the whole point of a tele is the bridge/pickup and through body combo which gives it the majority of its characteristic sound. I think with a trem it would lose too much of that character to really keep hold of it’s core sound and value.
I'm just going to have to try one I guess. There's one in my local guitar shop that I could try tomorrow
And the aspect that gives it the country picking sound is the player and his/her fingers. I have this in my possession atm and while the feedback was “it’s how a tele should sound” all I seem to be able to play on it in my style is Black Crowes “Remedy”.

Incidentally, that neck pickup is more strat voiced than I’ve heard on any other tele.

I finally bought a DGT after years of procrastination and have found that the hype is largely true. Although it has humbuckers, with the volume down at seven and the tone backed off a bit it does a convincing, slightly warmed, tele. With the neck pickup tapped you can get a fairly good, strat neck. The bridge is great for shimmer and keeps bends in tune most of the time.
So not a T type but would cover a lot of the ground you are interested in. I am now quite biased towards DGTs. So much so that if I were pushed to have only one guitar, it might now be a DGT rather than a tele.
In 50 years time guitar players will look back at these as the dark days when people bought 8 different guitar when one would do. The only question will be whether you go for one from PRS or a copy from Fender or Gibson.
