NGD: Bought into the hype....PRS DGT

What's Hot

I was never much of a PRS fan, however a friend has always raved about them and one day I decided to look for one. One day a stunning black McCarty Soapbar was listed for sale and I went and got it that morning.

I’ve hardly put it down since then, so the rave reviews and the ‘best guitar PRS makes’ has had me watching out for a DGT. Colours of PRS are hit and miss for me, so seeing this Goldtop DGT pop up for sale seemed like perfection (I already have a ‘16 R7 darkback).

It’s just arrived. Haven’t had a chance to plug it in so perhaps the best is yet to come, but so far I’m pretty stoked. Love the neck, love the colour, especially love the contrast between the gold top and the cherry back, so I’m hoping it sounds as good as it looks/plays. Will report back.

My guess is you’ll love how it sounds. Without doubt the best PRS ever as far as I’m concerned. Hope you enjoy it - congratulations.

Early McCartys are great.  Nice choice.  I hate goldtops, mind!

Nice one, I loved the tone of the DGT I had, loved the neck shape and jumbo frets, really didn't like the trem though, just couldn't get on with it at all.

That's a stunner. I'm not into flashy guitars normally but a goldtop will always turn my head. I got a very much budget version of yours for Xmas/birthday... http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/146960/ngd-ibanez-goldtop#latest

    Thanks for the comments chaps.

So plugged in I'm very impressed. The common thing said about these are how versatile they are, and I get that. The coil split is alot to do with that obviously. I’m tempted to let the McCarty go, but it really has it’s own thing going on too with the P90’s. I’ll see how things go with the DGT.

    Congratulations, that's a lovely guitar.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I like your colour choices - black and goldtop.  PRS guitars are great but I do find figured maple tops offputting.

    Red ones are better.

An obvious fan but when you look at that it’s hard to see what the haters get their panties in a bunch about.

Simple elegant tasteful still have to find my DGT

Likewise. These are the only 2 finishes I'd consider for a PRS (other than a satin/plaintop wood thing).

    Looks awesome, enjoy :)

Congrats on the DGT, looks great in Gold Top.  I have a McCarty Soapbar in gold  ;)  You're right about it having its own 'thing' going on.  Now you just need a Tele and a Strat and you're set!  Oh, did I just spend some more of your money?
    No Darling....I've had that ages.

Because bragging on the internet to people you don't know is more important than playing
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
