A Morning With Lola In Vintage Amp Heaven...

I refer of course to the abode of Sir James Of The Gassage....

... with the lovely Lola (a gorgeous heartbreaker of a Golden Doodle) escorting me to the wonderful man cave full of exciting guitars, Cornish pedals and two VERY special amps.

I fell in love with his 1956 5E3 Tweed Deluxe. To be fair, Ive never heard a tweed sound as good as this, and that includes my old beloved Lazy J. Great at ALL volumes, and I desperately tried to sneak it into the Wazmobile, whilst James was distracted by a pre-arranged Lola poo...

The second amp is the ultra rare 1963 Fender Vibroverb. Foxx moi, it was truly beautiful.

The pair of them in stereo was well, you know.... gulp....

Then, and there's more, up popped his
1973 Tele Custom... which was quite simply stunning to play and hold.
A remarkable guitar.

And if you've never heard a real Klon, you have missed out. Worth every penny.

Im running out of descriptive words to describe this festival of joy. What did I learn ?
Sometimes the old and the simple (amps etc not James and I...) work best, and sound best.

Big thanks to @Gassage for his usual warm welcome and for the inspiration/GAS/information/coffee... and for those few previous moments chatting and spending time with Lola

I don’t want to spoil the love-in but ‘worth every penny’? Methinks hype springs eternal!  :)

May be this could be made a formal forum day out that could be booked - like a trip to Alton Towers? And perhaps free for those with over - say - 20,000 frets?

@Wazmeister why thank you. And Lola says hi.

You can thank @riftamps for the 5E3 loveliness. It certainly wasn't in that league when I bought it- mainly down to someone putting a 12AX7 in P1 and a dodgy orginal Jensen that's since been rebuilt. I will leave the Cel Blue in it, but need to grab the original off Chris.

He also serviced the 6G16 and that had a couple of minor issues and improved greatly.

I always go back to one thing- the huge transformer @NigelP used to own- it's very powerful, 115v not 110v, and stable so it brings the best out of the old US voltage amps and that's why they're so chimey and sweet.

Off topic - So how is Lola - Hope you are enjoying time together

Summer is here (allegedly) so I find time for an extra walk and play after 6 or 7 or even later in the evening - Come winter it tends to be back on the lead before 4pm

I even enjoy the walk/exercise and play when it is horrible and raining - My dog doesn't mine and I enjoy the solitude when you are the only idiot in the park etc then a quick trip to the coffee shop on the way home - Sit outside under a canopy for some shelter (sensible people inside) and watch the world go by - Couldn't do that without the dog

Rubbish, you named her after Billy Mitchell’s granddaughter in Eastenders, admit it!  :)
