Shergold Guitars

Just seen this uploaded by Rabea, hadn't heard of them before.

I'm not usually a fan of "different" looking guitars but quite fancy the look of that Provocateur in Dirty Blonde! Bit of a Les Paul meets Tele deluxe vibe with a nice forearm contour, but different enough to not look like a dodgy copy of either. Price doesn't seem too bad. Gonna have to find one to try out when I get round to being able to treat myself to a new guitar :)

Wot? This specific series or Shergold guitars in general?

Looks quite cool but a bit rich for my blood

I reckon I'd still go for a Les Paul over this but as a 2nd guitar I reckon this Provocateur would be a more interesting replacement for an SG.

  • The black provocateur with the p90 looks cool. With the shorter scale length these look more appealing to me as rock machines over the masquerader.

To old fogeys like me, Shergold guitars means Seventies screwed-on neck instruments, with modular control circuitry, in the hands of Mike Rutherford of Genesis or Bernard and Hooky of Joy Division.

I quite like this Wikipædia page because it places Tim Smith of Cardiacs second on the list of famous users.

Other than the name they are nothing like the original Shergold guitars. Rather like Faith, as said above, they are designed by Patrick Eggle.
