    Very nice. I've been tempted to do a belly and forearm cut on a spare pine body I've got. This has only increased the temptation.

    Straight up, it is.  If playing 'in tune' is important, you will often hear some chords sounding slightly sour and off.  Even if your guitar is 100% spot on intonation wise.  An Earvana nut is one way to achieve good sounding chords.  Another is the BFTS.
