Rick Beato pulled apart the lawsuit recently and exposed it for the bollocks that it is

So, did the defence point out the similarity between the two songs and what had gone before?

Crikey, that'll make people think twice before writing ANY song.

The impression given in some of the reporting is that it was more about punishing Perry than anything to do with the music; she said she had simply never heard the Flame song but much was made of her background in the Christian rock scene and that she would have known about Flame.
But, obviously a nonsense to everyone apart from those six jurors.

More lawyers, more nonsense, and now the 'copying' claims are ... 3 notes!

I wonder if the musicologist is the same one (Todd Decker) as in the Perry/Flame suit?

That is utterly insane ... "a three note section of the song" ... "is similar to" ... Jesus wept

If you're going to go after Katy Perry, at least make it for something she could plausibly have stolen... like the title of this completely different song.

I don't get that. Perry put out one Christian album in 2001 and was working in the mainstream music industry by 2004. Flame's first album was released in 2004 and wasn't particularly commercially or critically successful. The song he claims Perry "stole" was written in 2008, while Perry was being all edgy and bi-curious and shit, and probably not listening to a whole lot of gospel rap.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Anyone see the follow up video he did after her record company put in a copyright claim against the original for using the same melody?

No more daft than when Carter usm got sued by the Rolling Stones for the song after the watershed. They used the phrase “goodbye ruby Tuesday” that’s it. No music similarities.
