Worst time I had with an infant on a flight - baby was fine, but parent was a PITA - bouncing kid on his knee and elbowing me in the ribs, didn't see the need to apologise for waking me up :p
    Fucking pilots!

seriously though, stock up on the Calpol sachets. Worked wonders for my two on long haul flights along with plenty of distractions.

Edit: just realised that you meant for the parents. Don't mind me.
    LOL.
Yes I'm not actually advocating giving it to the child.
I'd actually be inclined to give it to all the passengers.

The reason gripe water for babies got banned was it apparently contained gin.  :o

In the same way boiled sweets for adults help, something for the little fellow to suck at the appropriate time. (Stop sniggering at the back there). Lollies might be useful, you don't want him chocking on a bulls eye while the attendent is telling you to sit down and do your seat belt up. Lots of NEW to him puzzles, books, apps etc. are a usefull distraction. Make a fuss and show how excited the adventure is for you too.

I’m going through the same thing with my 2 year old in a couple of weeks when we fly to Italy. She’s flown before but she was only 3 months old and slept the entire time. Got a feeling it’s going to be a tough one

We took our kids on loads of flights. It's basically pot luck.Your kid might be fine on one flight then throw a super tantrum on the next. (possibly induced by tiredness, teething, the scary man sitting behind, etc).

My advice - do NOT deprive them of sleep beforehand. Tiredness is the main cause of tantrums. Do NOT choose this flight to be strict parents...in fact do the opposite...just indulge them for a couple of hours. If they want to eat cake, give it them. If they want to sing or play with your phone let them, etc.

Good luck with the Iron man

We took our son on a trip to New Zealand at 9 months, the 24 hour flight seemed bearable at the time, but I’d not do it again. HTH!
    Karma......

Good luck for IM. Is it a full distance?

Perhaps put your son in the luggage hold and put your bike on a seat instead lol Far easier! :)

    Yep. Full.

Physio just said ive got neural tension so is happy for me to do some light running before race day with some prescribed stretches. Which is the best news I could have hoped for.

I had contemplated. That but my wife said we weren’t allowed :-(
