I wouldn't do it, it will almost certainly change how it sounds.

GSPBasses seems to be a popular choice around here - currently waiting for confirmation that I can nab one of the roasted maple builds he's doing in September for my Tele.

@GSPBASSES on here will build you a neck for a lot less than you think, to your exact requirements. I just had a solid rosewood neck from him with a slight compound radius, lovely.

Just to add, compound radius is fingerboard rather than neck shaping, significantly more challenging than just building a new neck I expect.

If you have the money, order a custom neck from guitarbuild.co.uk

I don't see why a neck ordered to your specs would have any problems, as long as you get the right heel size+ confident drilling the right places.

If it makes you love it and play it more, it's worth it!  :)
I don't really dig the headstock shape. :(

With my preferences, the total prices jumped to £300.

I see you are in Bulgaria, there's a guy who occasionally posts here who makes very nice offsets who's from Varna.

Maybe send him a PM about making a neck to your liking?

Thanks, but I would prefer someone like GSP basses, for example.

Things get expensive if you have binding and block inlays done by hand,

I really didn't like the fat neck on my Les Paul at first and was looking into getting it shaved, so I put all my other guitars away for a month and got used to it.

It's my favourite neck now, but I'm still comfortable with the others.

Plus, if you sell it, you can get another that is a more suitable colour for a male.  ;)

Paging @pmbomb, who has recently had the neck of his BFG Les Paul shaved down with excellent results.

On that note, I’d agree with many of those above; rather than kill the resale value of the guitar by irreversibly modifying it, just shove a new neck on it.  That’s the advantage of bolt-ons vs set necks.  In any case, do something - no point having a nice guitar lying about which you don’t play.

  • How sure are you that it's the neck depth that is the issue, and not something else? A decent fret level, rounding off of the fretboard edges, and a lower action, can do wonders for the feel of a guitar.

    Bye!

    here!

Hello. Alex the tech at Guitar Guitar in Epsom shaped the neck on my Les Paul BFG (pics before the shave) down from a chunky D to a more 60s C. It cost a hundred quid, which is less than I'd have lost on a resale and means I get to keep a guitar I like.

It feels great and he finished it nicely with a stain. It started as wood effect not a glossy poly/nitro.

I don't think it'll affect resale because I reckon more people prefer C to D. And I'm not that bothered anyway.

It's probably worth in the region of 6 to 7 hundred smackers, so not high end for a Les Paul, which was a factor in the decision.

    - yours, pmb.

Just reshaped a Robert Cray MIM to a soft V using a block and sand paper. Came out really nice, you just have to keep checking and not rush it.

What grit sandpaper did you use mate, and did you just rub down the shoulders? im thinking of doing similar to my strat neck for the first time, don't really want to be hacking my neck with files, just the first 5 frets or so as I have 1.00" (25mm) at first fret. id like to 'soft v' it up! any tips would be much appreciated
