Filtertrons in a Casino?

DarnWeightDarnWeight Frets: 2566
Anyone tried this?  I see a few dog ear Filtertron options out there now, and I'm intrigued.

I have an Ibanez ASR70 (their Artcore take on the Casino/330) that I really dig, but if it has one weakness, it's probably the stock pickups...they're really not bad by any means, but they could definitely be a touch clearer/snappier.  I have Filtertrons in a few other guitars, like them a lot, and on paper they'd be a good fit in a Casino...pushing it into hollow-body Gretsch territory.

As long as the guitar/stock pickups have enough low end already then filtertrons would be great.

  • I’d love to see Ibanez reissue that guitar

Dyna-Sonic clones could work well. The problem would be disguising the mounting screw holes for the stock dogear covers.

TV Jones does ‘Trons in dogear covers.

Not a million miles away but the Chris Cornell signature model 335, has Lollar Filtertrons.

I put a couple of Gretsch Filtertrons in an Epiphone Casino once. It required a bit of ingenuity and some custom made pickup rings but it worked fine, sounded very much like a Gretsch hollow body.

Excellent, nice to hear it's both do-able and good-sounding.  Very tempted by a set of these if I can free up some funds...

...either that, or a pair of TVJ dog ear mounts and some HS Filtertrons.
