Telecaster deluxe

The more I think about these 70s weird looking telecasters, the more I think that they might be the best "do it all guitars" for the kind of stuff I play.

Anyone else a fan of this weird tele?

  • A telecaster with two wide range pickups? What’s not to love? Plus, they look awesome.

The only guitar I have any GAS for at the moment is a Tele with a SC in the bridge and a WRT in the neck. Whether a Deluxe with the Les Paul style controls or one with normal Tele controls

  • I built a HH deluxe because I love Telecasters but wanted a thick "rock" sound.

  • Got an American Vintage 72 Custom reissue. Swapped the 'bucker for an original WR. Best guitar I own by a mile.

I had a Shiflett tele on loan flor a while, which isn’t far off the deluxe but does have more standard HB style pickups. It was so similar in sound to my satin LP Studio that they couldn’t be picked apart in a blind test.

    So, yes. They rock!

A 72 deluxe is my go to. Love it. I was lucky enough to win a set of oil city “signature” pickups in the raffle a couple of years back and Ash made me a pair of pickups modelled on PAFs. It sounds massive.

I've got a Shiflett Tele. Love it. But it didn't stop me buying other guitars.

I think my Ibanez RG750 is probably the closest to a 'do it all guitar' that I own.
However, it's not very good a swiching to a drop tuning. That'a about a 10 minute job with a Floyd!

It's a wonderful guitar, very versatile. Just be aware that the MIM deluxe doesn't have real wide range pickups, just standard humbuckers in a WR casing. I've got one fitted with P90s and it's a much better guitar as a result.

I may actually be thinking of selling it soon if you were interested.

I like them. I’m more of a humbucker/P90 guy anyway and despite what people on forums say I tend to find a normal tele not so versatile. Sure you can play anything on it and it’ll sound good, but it always sounds like a tele, quite a specific sound to me. Humbuckers have a less instantly identifiable sound imo.

    I am with you there...

Found a Fender FSR body which was very cheap, but a three bolt neck and a hideous colour.  Didn't look too bright in the pictures, but nearly sent it back once I opened the box.  Missus went on and on about it so much, decided to keep it and it hangs by the TV.

Colour of a guitar doesn't matter right... RIGHT!

Great guitars in theory, in practice, the neck is horrendously skinny
