Need recommendation for oil finish for wood

I have some wooden pickguards that I would like to finish. Used Danish oil, it looks great but it smells a lot - a couple of days after the finish is applied, the pickguard still smells a lot.

What other options exist for oil finish?

  • Tru-oil is a popular one.  Medium linseed smell but much less strong than Danish oil, Tung oil, etc..  Can produce a lovely finish (especially if you 'slurry and buff'), but is more satin than gloss.

Also, Osmo Polyx is a relatively low odour and easy to apply finish but not what I would class as an oil.

  • Thanks, @Andyjr1515.

Is there a way to remove the smell of a finished wood?

The smell will fade over a week or so.

I've just finished a neck in Danish Oil and already, about 3 days later, the smell has almost gone.

Don’t forget that Danish Oil is a generic term. Recipes vary, and so does performance.
