A possible option could be the alnico stock ones from a Player Strat that the owner has swapped out.

I'm actually planning on selling them but probably won't get round to it quickly enough for you. I'm expecting less than 70 for them though and they are alnico unlike the Standard ones.

+1 for Priboras, not just 'good for the money', they're plain good.

This - it's been a few years now but I had a set in my first Classic 50s, totally transformed the guitar. Tried a set of Fender 57/62s in the same guitar, they came back out fairly quickly... The GFS were just bolder and nicer sounding, as crazy as that sounds.

These days, with the exchange rate being what it is, I'd look at Tonerider instead. Again, I did a swap with a handwound set in my current strat and it was very, very close. Put the Toneriders back in.

I ordered from his site... I’ve had two sets now, replaced a set of fralins and a set of stock USA fenders... really good pickups.

It was the Voodoo set.. Got 'em via ebay, there was no extra tax or extras - not sure if that's because the amount was under the tax limit or just luck though.

  • Another +1 for Priboras - voodoos are excellent, I've had a few different types of sets from him too via ebay - bought in £s and $s - separate occasions, no extra taxes /hidden extras just price bid and advertised postal charge.
        2 / 3 weeks for delivery.

I've only got around to fitting voodoos so far- these even sound good when wired for 3 at once.

I put Irongears in my Squier Strat - Texas Loco at the bridge, Pig Irons middle & neck - and they transformed the sound of it. They were helpful on the phone when I had a query too.

Tried a set of these and really like them - stratty, crisp and defined but sweet-sounding and with decent beef to the tone also - cut through well in a band. They are a 48-50-52 spacing and use pre-formed bobbins, pole pieces are flush to the top of the cover. But they are hand wound and nicely made. Not for those after strict vintage specs anyhow, but I'm really impressed by the sounds.

I’ve used Ironstone pickups in several Stratocaster style guitars and been very pleased with them. The set that they claim to be good for Shadows sounds are a dead ringer for my set of Fender Custom Shop 57/62s at a fraction of the price.

  • I’ve got Entwistle 57’s in a strat. They sound ace at whatever price point you put on them.
Prices go for about £17 each now.
I’m sure I got mine for around £30 for a set (but this was about 8 years ago).

  • Just ordered a neck and middle with a custom stagger from Evil Sheep pickups in Yorkshire.. They are about £30 each, this guy seems to like em.
