Seamus Heaney

What's Hot
No, not a Yewtree thing, he's died.

Real shame, had the chance to work with him a few years ago and he was a really nice bloke - very funny despite the image..

    Sad.

I can't claim to be a massive reader of his works, but I got his Beowulf translation when that came out, and went to a reading (I mentioned this in a FB post earlier) with a strange mix of literary types and prog fans.

    A sad loss.
I make no claim to know anything about poetry but whenever I hear him reading his work, I'm mesmerised.
I swear that I can smell the damp earth in this one...

Studied one of his poems in GCSE English... little other experience of his work besides that. Sad news though. :(

I had to study that poem about digging in English at school.

It was effective in that reading it is almost as shitty as actually digging a hole.

I studied his version of the Burial at Thebes and some of his other works for my degree. Pretty good stuff it was.

    Really?

The most notable Irish poet since Yeats. A sad, sad loss.

I am surprised. But then my dad hadn't heard of the rolling stones, marilyn monroe, or frank bruno till I told him a couple of years ago.
