Which iPad interface for guitar (Mini retina)

As per title really!  Looks like the obvious contenders from some quick googling are the Line 6 Sonic Port, IK iRig HD and the Apogee Jam.  As far as I'm aware it is best to avoid the interfaces that plug in to the headphone port (especially as I use high gain a lot).  If there is something reasonably priced that also takes a mic input that would be even better - but the main priority is that the guitar input works well and doesn't clip with humbucker guitars.

Any help much appreciated here.  I don't really have any knowledge relating to iPad stuff, but just received a Mini Retina as a surprise gift.

I've got the iRig HD, works great with my iPad and iPhone, as well as my MacBook Air.

You also get some free Amplitube Metal amps with it since you like high gain :)

I have the Jam, albeit using a 30-pin cable on iPad3. It's great.

Sonic Port here. Works fine with Amplitube, Jamup, Bias & Mobile Pod.

Son has the Sonic Port, works very well and I'll probably get one myself soon.

    Sonic Port here.

Huge upgrade over my old iRig (original crackly cross-talky one)

The same for me .. having tried a few the Line 6 Sonic Port seems to be the best ..

I had considered the Sonic Port but went with the iRig HD instead due to it having an input gain control on it, and more importantly for me, it also works with Macs via USB.

I'm pondering the Ampkit Link HD - as it has a physical control for both input and headphone level right on it
(only downside is you need your own adapter for iPhone 5 / iPad Air as it only comes with 30 pin)
    Red ones are better.

  • Does the Jam work with any DAW? E.g. can I record from the Jam into Tracktion?

  • I'm using JamUp Pro now after initially trying Amplitude which was rather noisy in my opinion

    Necro-thread! :-)

    I got a SonicPort - it's very good - iOS only

The newer version - SonicPort VX (I think it's called) works with iOS and PC and Mac
    Red ones are better.

iPad Air with an original irig works very well no issues, using bias fx or jamup. I also use a focusrite istudio with the iPad and my Mac. I don't get any issues with my irig and have tried an irig hd but see no difference
