Nominative determinism

What's Hot
After years (possibly decades) of thinking that ‘my sound’ is smooth, transparent low gain, what I’ve ended up gravitating to is snarly, biting crunch and occasional bouts of fuzzy lead.

Perhaps my throwaway choice of forum name all those years ago had an influence?

I think it's a lot easier to have an edgy tone and round it off with guitar controls than it is to try and add an edge back in where none existed.  Sort of what I'm going for with having a decent bite from the amp. But also currently having no OD, only fuzz and boost I' trying to keep it from being 'too' smooth.

  • I think of Brian Eno as Mr Nominative Determinism sometimes. Of course one would invent ambient electronic music and whatnot if one were called Brian Eno.

    Doesn't always work.
In Witney the main butcher is called 'Bakers'.
It is also a town that doesn't have a baker- you have to get your bread from Waitrose or Sainsbury.

I immediately thought of inverse nominative determinism when I heard about the footballer David Goodwillie committing a sexual assault.
