I used to work in an art faculty but not as an artist.
One time the small gallery in the building had just had a student exhibition taken down. The stepladders & some wood brackets for holding window blackouts were left in the space. I walked past this daily & a thought occurred to me...
Rearranged the blocks, typed up some complete & utter pseudy bollocks, printed it out & stuck it on the wall next to the ladders.
It was left there for over 5 weeks until a senior fine art lecturer spotted it, but several times we saw students & visitors observing it as 'art'  :-D

A lot of the contemporary art world is a scheme for rich people to "park" their money and speculate on it. It's so safe that you can even get art galleries (public or private) to pay your insurance while you park your art piece. If it gets stolen or damaged you get your money back, meanwhile, it appreciates in value as it's being displayed and gaining fame/notoriety. Great deal.

A very moving commentary on the troubles in Hong Kong and the oppression of the Chinese government.

when I do this at work in a public area I have to erect a safety barrier around the ladder. If I did this I would be sacked

If the artist is renowned anything they create will be valuable, even if it’s a bit crap. It’s no different than a "Masterbuilt" Fender.
    FTFY. :)

Police were later deployed to guard the replacement banana.

What did you do today, daddy?
    I was a banana's bodyguard, son.

Was there really any need to involve the peelers?
    Call me Dave.

It was preferable to dealing with algal growth in the bottle accelerated by exposure to daylight :-)

It was not in a public area & it was not being used as as work equipment, otherwise I'd completely agree with you.

And then you get an artist says he doesn't want to paint at all
He takes an empty canvas and sticks it on the wall

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

    Bit of trading feedback here.

  • What do the massed critics think of this untitled 1969 work in nylon and steel by American artist Robert Barry spotted at the Whitney gallery in NYC a couple of years ago? Thats a real chap, positioned to stop people walking into it.

I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.
