Does this exist - cheap way to make a neck playable (poor mans Chapman Srick?)

If you wanted to do the Tele neck thing I have seen a guy on Facebook who knocks out Tele bodies and in amongst them he does also sell minimalist rectangular bodies for travel guitars that take Tele necks & hardware. Hang on I’ll see if I can find him

And the tremolo works how? 

Well, if you’re me, you  put the bar in the hole and move it around so it goes:
“ weeeooooowwwewobblewobble”. 
Which is why I don’t use one anymore.

Had one. Loved the idea but it is horribly unbalanced standing up and impossible to play normally while seated. It made playing painful and I wouldn't want to play one, even if I had it while travelling. I'd recommend trying before buying this one to see if it suits.

With a Steinberger, you don’t have the length of the headstock. A Spirit model can be had cheap.

Somebody I was briefly in a band with in the mid-Eighties had a de-fretted bass version of that. My recollection is that its scale was slightly shorter than his Aria RSB.

Think John Mayall's mini guitar is some form of a sawn off Tele - easiest route I'd say. A Spirit by Steinberger will probably be a lot cheaper than something made for you at around £199 s/h, £299 new.

I think there is a company (guitarbuild) which make just a small body ever. They have a body which is fixed bridge and essential just the same foot print as the scratch plate.
