So I did a thread about a reverb purchase recently -

£85 purchase and the buyer immediately came back to me saying he'd found a fault, couldn't send the item and had refunded me.

PayPal then showing processing payment - need to wait a week. PayPal security issue.

So this morning I get a message from PayPal saying payment failed, contact the seller.

I message the seller and he then refunds me directly but not PayPal friends and family.

I've messaged Reverb but wtf!

Imagine if this was a £2000 guitar?

I could still get screwed over by the seller and I thought the whole point of using Reverb was buyer protection.

The last time is use Reverb, period.

Anyone got any contact on reverb?
Ive messaged through the automated service.

Appreciate it's only £85 but take this as a huge warning.

Oh and the payment the guy made to me today was obv outside of reverb and I got hit with fees on his payment/ refund, so didn't get the full 85 quid back.

    Totally dodgy.

Hang on, the buyer re-funded you for a fault they found?

Refunded me before he sent it to me!

Said he rechecked the item and found a fault.

  • I always sell with Reverb's in house funding system, they probably didn't like you feathering Ebays nest using Paypal! ;)

I had a bizarre issue I couldn't get to the bottom of last year. I tried to pay for an item £120 or so. The payment kept bouncing / being rejected through Paypal. The seller then sent me 1 penny, which came through fine, but as soon as I tried to send any money their way it kept being rejected. I took it as a warning or something strange and backed out.

I've used Reverb, both buying and selling, and never had any problems aside from that though.

  • I would take it up with PayPal. You have buyer protection as you didn’t receive the item so they should refund you. If the seller’s payment failed that’s their problem. They should refund you then take it up with the seller not get you to chase him. That’s the whole point of the buyer protection!

  • Agree with the above.
Buyer protection via reverb and PayPal is in their terms and conditions.

I probably won't use Reverb again after this.

I do hundreds of deals of Reverb, typically if a buyer needs refunding you do it via Reverb and it goes through without any loss to the customer. This sounds more like the seller didn't have the funds in his PP or Reverb account to cover the transaction. The same thing could easily happen on Ebay but PP will cover you if you open a case

  • So, I've been advised that you shouldn't use PayPal through reverb but should use Reverb payment - even though both are directly through reverb.

The seller above refunded through reverb.
But PayPal then messaged and said refund didn't process.

It looks like PayPal don't have the same agreement or relationship as eBay has, with reverb.

I didn't know you could make payments differently through reverb and will now check and make sure I never pay via PayPal on reverb again.
